Microsoft SQL Server

Most of us are familiar with the concept of storing information in a file on our hard drive. We may even store information in a 'database' file such as Access or Excel. These are great products for some applications, but for vital company information - you need a SQL Server.

Database servers, like SQL Server, are designed specifically for the storage and retrieval of information across a network.

Power

The power and sophistication of SQL Server is almost equivalent to a complete operating system.

Storing and retrieving information safely and reliably across a network, is actually quite difficult to do. SQL Server implements a number of technologies to enable this happen effectively.

SQL is a very powerful language that contains a rich set of commands that enables isisOne to query and modify data. One of the great benefits of a SQL Server is that the server performs all of the database operations remotely. This means your local machine is not tied up with queries and calculations, so that you benefit from the speed and power of a dedicated database server.

Transaction Processing. This is a fantastic technology that makes sure - even in the event of a hardware or system failure - that your data remains safe and secure. A typical transaction involves changes to several tables, where data must be written in 'all-or-nothing' fashion.

For example, if an item was removed from stock for delivery, it might be imperative that the stock table, the delivery note table, and the invoice table ALL were all changed together - or none at all. Such transactions are referred to as having ACID properties.

Stored Procedures are a great way to provide an additional layer of security to isisOne. Rather than pass a whole list of SQL commands to the server, isisOne passes only the data required by the stored procedure. This reduces the possibility of rogue or malicious SQL getting into the system.

Smart choice

“Storing your data in a SQL Server is like keeping your money in a bank” …

It's safe and secure and you can access it from pretty much anywhere in the world.

Keeping your company's vital information in a file on your hard drive, is equivalent to keeping your money in a box under the mattress!
